Fitting & Maintenance

A Bausen solid wood floor is a fine investment. This floor if fitted correctly and looked after can last you a lifetime. For this reason Bausen strongly advocate professional flooring contractors to fit solid floors as it is a specialised process.

If you need instructions you should seriously consider a qualified professional floor fitter.

The Contract Flooring Association can provide you with a list in your local area, where a subcontractor can be found.

We strongly recommend the following guidelines be observed.

One of the biggest influences to the movement of timber is moisture.  Please do not underestimate the effect it can have on your floor.   In the most basic terms, if it dries it will shrink and if it gets wet it will swell.

Always check you have the correct conditions on site and take moisture readings before any installation begins.

It must be taken into consideration that we cannot cover every possible aspect of fitting and aftercare, and common sense and duty of care should be borne in mind.  As with any timber, it is a natural product and that is where its beauty lies, natural defects define its character.  The flooring must be checked carefully at the fitting stage as once fitted it is too late.  Anticipate at lease a 5% minimum waste factor for natural defects in the floor, which may cause the piece not to be suitable for its intended purpose.

A timber floor, although harder wearing than a carpet, it still not an inert element.  Heat, moisture and the relative humidity of the environment around it will have an effect on the floor, the more prolonged or intense the influencing factor, the greater the effect.
